In Minesweeper Logic (No-Guess Deduction), every board can be solved without ever taking a blind risk. Once you train your eyes to spot two universal patterns, your solving speed will double.
1. The Classic “1-2-1” Wall Pattern
Whenever you see a straight wall of uncovered numbers reading 1 – 2 – 1 along an unrevealed edge:
- The two mines must sit directly above the two outer 1s.
- The square directly above the center 2 is 100% guaranteed safe to dig!
- Why? If the middle square contained a mine, both outer 1s would already be satisfied, leaving no valid spot to place the second mine required by the center 2.
2. The “1-2-2-1” Twin Pattern
When you encounter 1 – 2 – 2 – 1 along a flat frontier:
- The two mines are always directly adjacent to the two center 2s.
- The squares above the outer 1s are completely safe to clear.
3. The “1-1” Corner Subset Rule
When a 1 is next to another 1 against a corner or border edge, the outer 1 only touches two hidden squares, while the inner 1 touches those same two squares plus a third square. Since the first 1 guarantees exactly one mine lies in the first two squares, the third square is mathematically guaranteed to be safe!
